Role of Dissolution and Precipitation of Minerals in Controlling Soluble Aluminum in Acidic Soils

چکیده

Acidic soils are a worldwide phenomenon that may be natural or anthropogenic in origin. Acidic precipitation and farm management practices that disrupt the carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur cycles have apparently resulted in contemporary acidification rates that are much higher than rates estimated to occur in their absence (Binkley et af., 1989; Robson, 1989). Agricultural production on acidic soils may be severely limited by a number of nutritional (e.g., nitrogen or molybdenum deficiencies) or toxicity (e.g., aluminum or manganese) problems E ISSOLUTION ECIPITATION INERALS NTROL ING LUBLE I N IDIC ILS

Contaminant bioavailability in soils, sediments, and aquatic environments.

The aqueous concentrations of heavy metals in soils, sediments, and aquatic environments frequently are controlled by the dissolution and precipitation of discrete mineral phases. Contaminant uptake by organisms as well as contaminant transport in natural systems typically occurs through the solution phase. Thus, the thermodynamic solubility of contaminant-containing minerals in these environme...

Phosphate-induced lead immobilization from different lead minerals in soils under varying pH conditions.

This study investigated phosphate-induced lead immobilization from different Pb minerals in soils under varying pHs. Four soils were used, including one Pb-contaminated soil (NC-Soil) and three soils spiked with litharge (PbO), cerrusite (PbCO3), or anglesite (PbSO4), referred to as PbO-soil, PbCO3-soil, and PbSO4-soil, respectively. The soils were equilibrated with KCl and Ca(H2PO4)(2).H2O und...

Aluminum effect on dissolution and precipitation under hyperalkaline conditions: I. Liquid phase transformations.

Substantial amounts of self-boiling, Al-rich, hyperalkaline, and saline high-level waste fluids (HLWF) were deposited to the vadose zone at the Hanford Site, in Washington State. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of similar fluids on the extent of dissolution and precipitation in the sediments. Metal- and glass-free systems were used to conduct batch experiments at 323 ...

Role of Calcium Content in Dissolution Kinetics of Iranian Borate Minerals in Sulfuric Acid

The dissolution kinetics of pandermite and hydroboracite, present in an Iranian borate ore, in sulfuric acid has been comparatively studied. The effect of particle size, temperature, and acid concentration on their dissolution rate was investigated. Dissolution rates of both minerals increased by reducing the particle size and by raising the temperature. Although, an increase in the acid concen...

Changes in Different Forms of Potassium and Clay Minerals in Soils as Influenced by Different Aged Orange Trees (Citrus sinensis) in Darab, Fars Province

Despite the great importance of potassium applied as a fertilizer in the orange orchards, no information is currently available regarding the rate of potassium release from rhizosphere and the bulk soils of such trees. The objectives of this study were to investigate the weathering of micaceous minerals and their non-exchangeable K release and also, to examine the status of different forms of K...
